India felt secured till he was there in the middle , no matter how big the target was, things looked under control till he batted. He gave us confidence, the belief that we can do it. He was the inspiration to so many youngsters. He is our pride and we proudly say that we belong to the country where HE lives.Whenever he achieved something , any milestone, it felt like our own achievement.  What separated him from the rest was his amazing work ethics and discipline. His preparation for each game always remained the same. He always looked to evolve his game with time. That was the prime reason why he was able to adapt easily in all formats of the game. Thank you for all the happiness ,for all the thrilling moments and especially for making us forget our pain in life. Thank you for entertaining us for last 24 yrs.

Today when i go down the memory lane there are so many moments that i would remember throughout the life. Lets start the journey all over again and live all those moments once again.

1989

The Journey Begins

The journey began in 1989 when a young boy aged just 16 yrs was picked for the national team for the tour of Pakistan. At such a young age most of the guys are trying to get a spot in U-19 team of India , but here was a guy who was sharing the dressing room with the likes of kapil Dev ,Ravi Shahstri , Dilip Vengsarkar , Krish Srikkanth. Many feared that picking such a young guy to face the fast and furious bowling attack of pakistan which had Imran , Wasim and Waqar wasn't a wise move. But the selectors who had seen him perform at first class level knew that he was ready to take on the world. And Tendulkar didn't disappoint anyone. He scored 215 runs at an avg of 35.83. Two major highlights of the tour were, Sachin being hit on the nose by Waqar in 4th test at Sialkot , but he refused to leave the field and scored a fighting 50.And he smashed Abdul Qadir for 4 sixes in an over in a friendly 20 over match.

India was on the tour to England where Tendulkar scored his first century. At 17 yrs and 112 days he became the second-youngest to score a century in test. His 119* at Old Trafford helped India to save the test match. Being his 1st century and that too on a foreign soil made it even more special.

1990

First Century

In 1992 , Team India were to tour Australia. This was supposed to be the real test for any youngster. Already scored a century in England and 88 in New Zealand , people knew that he was comfortable against extra pace. But getting accustomed to extra bounce on Australian pitches was something that Indians always found difficult. But what they witnessed, took everybody by surprise. Tendulkar scored a brilliant 148 in Sydney and followed it with the knock that is undoubtedly the best century of his career. He made 114 on the fast and bouncy track of perth. People around the world began to believe that he was someone special. Media began to write a lot about him. What set him apart from others was his sheer ability to handle steep bounce and extra pace. By the time team India returned back from the tour , Tendulkar had become a star.

Tendulkar was 19 years and 217 days when he passed the 1000-Test-runs milestone, the youngest to do so. He did it while scoring 111 out of India's 227 in Johannesburg. Earlier in the year he had become Yorkshire's first-ever overseas signing

Makeshift Opener in ODIs

Magic Partnership

In 1994, India was on the tour to New Zealand and it was 2nd one-day of the series. Navjot Singh Sindhu , indian opener had a stiff neck on the morning of the match and India was looking for a make shift opener. Sachin went to the Captain Azhar and asked him if he can open the innings. He said " I am very confident that I can go after the bowlers in first 15 overs and if I fail , I would never ask to open again. He went out there and blasted the NewZealand bowlers apart. He scored a breathtaking 82 off 49 balls and rest is history. He went on to become the best ODI opener in the world. Thanks to that stiff neck of Navjot Sidhu that contributed immensely towards the emergence of "MASTER-BLASTER".

1995

Got Married at 22.

At 22 , he married to his love Anjali Mehta. Anjali was a doctor but he gave up her profession and looked after  Sachin's family. Throughout his career Anjali proved to be his biggest support. As they Say , "Behind Every Successful Man There Is a Woman".

1996

Brilliant in World Cup

Tendulkar became the first batsman to score more than 500 runs in a World Cup.He scored two centuries and three half centuries in the tournament. His tally ended on 523, with this stumping against Sri Lanka, in the semi-final.   Spectators could not see India loosing and started throwing bottles at the ground. Match was called off and Srilanka was declared winner.

1997

Captain Sachin

Tendulkar was made captain of national team in 1996. He was really excited to perform well as captian. But, may be it wasn't in his destiny. Team performed very poorly under him. In 1997, India beat Pakistan 4-1 in ODI series in Toronto. This was one of the few wins under his captaincy. He gave up captaincy in 1998.

1998

Sachin's Desert Storm

It seemed that Tendulkar always saved his best for mighty aussies. This year will always be remembered for the famous "Sandstorm Innings" that He played in Sharjah against Australia in Coca Cola Cup. His innings were storms in itself which blew away the aussies. First in the semis he made brilliant 143 to take india single handedly into the finals and then two days later he scored a even better 134 to take India to victory. Those two innings displayed some best improvised shots of the great man. Listening to Tony Greig while commentary made this innings even more special.

Tendulkar was on a roll this year not only with the bat but also with the ball. He got the first five-wicket haul under his belt against Australia, taking wickets of Michael Bevan, Steve Waugh, Darren Lehmann, Tom Moody and Damien Martyn for just 32 runs in 10 overs at Kochi.

1999

Shoulder before wicket

1999

India was on the tour to Australia in 1999 , under Sachin's Captaincy. Tendulkar tried to duck to a bouncer from Magrath and was struck on the shoulder. Umpire Daryl Harper gave him out lbw. This decision became famous as shoulder before wicket.

Lost his Father during WC 99

Tendulkar was forced to fly back to Mumbai in the middle the 1999 World Cup to attend his father's funeral . Everyone thought that it was the end of WC campaign for Tendukar , but to everybody's surprise he returned back just after missing a match against Zimbabwe. He played a lovely innings of 140* and dedicated it to his father.Later he revealed that he did not want to comeback but his mother asked him to go back as his father would have also liked to see him play.
